A moment of silence: 2002 was in many ways a sad year for the KMAs. This was a year where we lost many legendary leaders. The 3 that I knew of greatly (2 personally, although I am sure they would hardly remember my face let alone my name!) were: GM LEE, Hwang Kee, founder of MooDukKwan TangSooDo and MooDukKwan SooBhakDo. While he did not start the "TangSooDo" name, he certainly adopted and nutured it, finally transforming it into his own persona; GM CHOI, Hong Hi, who recommended that the name "TaeKwonDo" be adopted by all, and who also founded both OhDoKwan and the ChongHon style of TKD later to be known as the International TKD Federation; GM PARK Jung Tae, a gifted and talented TKDist, formerly of the ITF and founder of the Global TKD Federation.

  1. WARNING: It has been brought to my attention that there is a HKD Group in Australia that is blatently using our (KOMA SEAPAC) Logo. Please be aware that while I had originally helped to start off this Group, I have not been associated with them, nor heard from them, for many years (since their formation). One would have thought that they would either design and use their own logo or at least seek permission to use that which was designed by others. Unfortunately, ethics, professionalism, honour, integrity and simple common courtesy are not as common as we would like.
  2. The retreat 2002 pictures have been added.
  3. The Gallery pictures have been added.
  4. New certificates added.

This site has undergone a facelift, in the hope of providing better navigation, information and user experience.

  1. We are posting this months Training Tip a tad late due to coming out of the Retreat 2002. To compenstate, we are also posting the December Tip as well.
  2. The Retreat 2002 was a good effort. Due to various external factors, especially the Bali bombing, all foreign participants cancelled. This was understandable, albeit sad. However, a great time was had by all who did attend. Please view the Event Photos section.
  3. Work on Retreat 2003 will begin in December, and we hope to have details for you in February 2003 for another October date next year.
  4. We will be adding new features to the site by the end of 2002; these will include a couple of video sections and an old photos archive.
  5. The old KHA under GM Hwang, Duk-Kyu no longer exists. It ceased as a legal entity in Korea around March this year (2002). While it has changed it's name and apparantly it's Mission, I have no clear details. However, KOMA SEAPAC will continue with our Goals, even if we do not have a clear line to the previous body.
  6. A point of note; with the closure of the KHA and it's name (at least in English), it is my understanding that I am the last Grand Master certified under that body's papers, as well as being honored as the last SongMooKwan GM to boot (original Kwan of HKD).
  7. There seems to be some technical problems with my KTA papers as previously displayed. These issues are serious enough to lead me to remove all said papers from the site until proper clarification has been obtained from the Recommending and Issuing Authorites. I hope that this situation will be cleared up by December. Until then, I will revert back to my 7th Dan ranking, issued by ChungDoKwan and my 6th Dan KukiWon, as far as TaeKwonDo is concerned.
  8. This year's Kuching Seminar will be held on the 23rd of November. Focus will be on HKD CQC.

November 15, 2002

There will be a United Kingdom seminar on KukSool HapKiDo and it's military CQC derivitive, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, 29th December 2002, at Guildford. The seminar will be conducted by GM J. S. Lim, 8th Dan HKD, 7th Dan TKD, LTC (R). Duration should be about 4 hours, starting at 1300hrs GMT; cost is GBP25 per person at the door. For further details, please contact Ian Hunter at ianjameshunter2776@hotmail.com.

  1. The Links section has been improved a tad to allow better data access.
  2. We are extending the early bird discounts for the October Retreat 2002 until June 30th. Final booking and payment deadline is now extended to July 31st.
  3. The TKD Patterns section has been revised to include TULS and HYUNGS (still need more research or help, especially with the latter!).
  4. The HapKi HoSinSool Syllabus requirements have also been amended to allow for better drill down skills knowledge albeit over a narrower field.

March 6, 2002

We have been honored with an official Letter of Well Wishing from the Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MinDef), signed personally by none other than the Minister of Defence, Y.B. Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak. Appreciation must be given to Colonel Muhamad Effendi (Airborne, MinDef), who gave us his valuable assistance and advice. May your jumps be forever safe, and your next command as dynamic as you (stars would look real good on your shoulders as well). Airborne Rangers Lead The Way! Hoah!

February 20, 2002

We are fortunate that our event will be graced by some honoured senior guests. GrandMaster Richard Hackworth and Master Greg Lee (both from KMAIA, KHF and JinJunKwan HKD) have announced their intentions to attend!
